Portquartz

Artist: h0oty

Portquartz is an arcane, colourless gem found in the caves of Winterfrost, having limited capabilities to teleport an individual.

With some basic blacksmithing and magic refinement, it can be turned into a Wandertail, which allows for teleportation, free travel and rentry into Wanderveil.

Portquartz, unlike most gems, can be melted without destroying its structure, which can be used to repair Wandertails. This molten liquid Portquartz is known as Portquartz Amber due to the heating process making it appear like malleable amber.

Wandertail

Wandertails are amulets that allow for teleportation, free travel and rentry into Wanderveil.

Though they are powerful, they have some limitations, as outlined below.

  • Wandertails must be bound/attuned to an individual before they can use it. When bound, the colour of the Wandertail changes to match the colour of the individual's eyes.

  • Under normal circumstances, Wandertails can only transport the individual they are bound to. In the case of transporting someone without their own Wandertail, they can do so once before the Portquartz in the amulet cracks.
Using it again as-is will either result in the teleportation failing, or the owner of the Wandertail being teleported to a random location by accident.
The crack can be fixed by melting a small amount of Portquartz Amber into the resulting crack, which must be done by a skilled blacksmith.

  • A Wandertail's attunement to its owner cannot be broken, and it cannot be used without its owner (which means that a wanderling cannot give their amulet to someone to borrow, they must use it with them).

  • When a wanderling dies, the Wandertail bound to them will turn to ash.
